Ornithoptera alexandrae

簡介亞歷珊卓皇后鳥翼蝶（Ornithoptera alexandrae），又名亞歷山大鳥翼蝶或亞歷山大鳳蝶，是目前發現全球最大的蝴蝶。1907年由沃爾特·羅斯柴爾德（Walter Rothschild）命名，以紀念英王愛德華七世之妻亞歷珊卓皇后。其分布僅限於新幾內亞東北部。

分類最初歸類於裳鳳蝶屬，現已調整至鳥翼蝶屬；部分學者主張應獨立成屬。

特徵

• 雄蝶：體型較小，翼展約16-20厘米。翅膀帶有虹藍光澤及綠色斑紋，腹部鮮黃色。部分個體後翅帶金點。

OverviewThe Queen Alexandra’s birdwing (Ornithoptera alexandrae) is the largest butterfly in the world, discovered and named in 1907 by Walter Rothschild to honor Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VII. It is endemic to northeastern Papua New Guinea.

ClassificationInitially categorized under Troides, it is now placed in Ornithoptera. Some researchers suggest it should form its own genus.

Characteristics

• Males: Smaller, with a wingspan of 16 to 20 cm. Brown wings feature iridescent blue-green patterns and bright yellow abdomens. Some have gold spots on the hindwings.
